Mytoi (508-627–7689), on nearby Chappaquiddick Island, is a 14-acre preserve that has a serene, beautifully tended, Japanese-inspired garden with a creek-fed pool spanned by a bridge and rimmed with Japanese maples, azaleas, bamboo, and irises. The area also has spectacular nature preserves. Stop into the Martha’s Vineyard Museum (508-627–4441), which has a collection of historic buildings and provides insight into the island’s past. The area is home to impressive captains’ houses dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, along with plenty of other historic buildings, meticulously-landscaped gardens and interesting shops.
